Each person has extensive real estate investment and finance experience from some of the nation’s top institutions. With a track record proving solid returns throughout multiple real estate cycles, Urbana Varro’s team is well disciplined in its investment strategy and uniquely qualified to execute the investments of the firm.

Allan Gutierrez
Chief Executive Officer / Chairman of the Board
Mr. Gutierrez has over 25 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry and is responsible for the daily oversight of company operations with particular attention given to evaluating development and acquisition opportunities, geographic and investment expansion, and management of key capital and business relationships.

Prior to forming Urbana and affiliated companies, Mr. Gutierrez was a Principal and Chief Investment Officer of Songy Partners, a national real estate investment company focused primarily on urban infill development projects with particular emphasis in office and hotel sectors; company Founder and CEO of Alliance Partners, Inc., a national real estate advisory firm with offices in Florida, Colorado and California; Vice President with Sonnenblick Goldman, a national real estate investment banking firm; and a Manager with Kenneth Leventhal and Company, a real estate consulting group.

Mr. Gutierrez has performed over 100 assignments in 48 states with a specific expertise in strategic planning, debt restructuring, non-performing loan sales, merger and acquisitions of public and private real estate companies, and feasibility studies. Mr. Gutierrez has also secured debt and/or equity for numerous institutional hotel projects, office, multi-family, golf courses and residential land developments.

Mr. Gutierrez received his Masters of Finance from Michigan State University and B.S. in Accounting from Wayne State University.

Edward J. Nolan
Chief Financial Officer / Chief Investment Officer
Mr. Nolan has over 25 years of experience in commercial and residential real estate and is responsible for the oversight of asset management and investor reporting, acquisition financing, and identifying and underwriting investment opportunities.

Prior to joining Urbana and affiliated companies, Mr. Nolan was Chief Financial Officer of SunCal Companies, a California developer of master planned communities. During his tenure, the company’s asset base grew from approximately $250 million under management to $4.1 billion.

Prior to SunCal, Mr. Nolan was President and Chief Financial Officer of Hudson Advisors in Singapore where his responsibilities included oversight of the asset management, tax structuring, foreign currency management, and financial reporting of investments made in the Asia Pacific region by Lone Star Opportunity Funds III and IV. The company managed in excess of 100,000 assets and $2.1 billion. Prior to SunCal, Mr. Nolan was Vice-President for The Hampstead Group, LLC, a Dallas-based private equity firm, and Vice-President of Finance, Treasurer and Director of Investor Relations for Bristol Hotels and Resorts, a Dallas-based hotel development and management company.

Mr. Nolan is formally a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University.

Feliz Jarvis
Chief Hotel Operations Officer
Mrs. Jarvis has over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry and is directly responsible for the company’s hotel operations and management, including: sales and marketing, redevelopment, revenue management, and asset management.

Mrs. Jarvis has worked with hundreds of hotel assets across North America and through every economic cycle over the last 30 years, including: Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Starwood, and La Quinta brands, as well as independent hotels, resorts and conference centers. She has experience in every facet of the hotel industry including: acquisitions, operations, development, and redevelopment.

Prior to joining the Varro and Urbana companies, Mrs. Jarvis was the Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing for La Quinta Inns and Suites, a Dallas-based hotel operator; Vice President at Bristol Hotels and Resorts, a Dallas-based hotel development and management company which was acquired by FelCor Lodging Trust for $1.7 billion; and a director at Laventhol and Horwath, an international public accounting firm.

Mrs. Jarvis received a Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Houston, Conrad N. Hilton College for Hotel and Restaurant Management.

Jeremy Soder
Chief Marketing Officer
Mr. Soder has over 20 years of experience in commercial real estate, management, operations, securities, and corporate development, and plays a key role in all corporate strategies and business decisions.

Mr. Soder is a founding principal and CEO of Varro Hospitality, a Dallas-based hotel investment company focused on acquiring financially distressed upscale hotel properties. Founded to capitalize on the downturn in the economy and depressed real estate values, Mr. Soder successfully orchestrated the formation and development of the company’s operating platform, executive leadership team, and corporate strategies; the culmination of which led to its first acquisition, a $35 million portfolio of five Marriott hotels.

Prior to Varro, Mr. Soder was a founding principal and chief operating officer for Granite Resources, LLC, Dallas-based company focused on mineral rights lease acquisitions for natural gas exploration. He has been involved in development budgets exceeding $42 million and played several key roles in developing the company’s corporate strategies.

Mr. Soder is regular speaker for various real estate and hospitality panels; most recently in 2012, the CBRE Hotel Summit in Dallas, the Bisnow San Antonio Hotel Investment Summit, the Bisnow Dallas Hotel Investment Summit, the MoneyShow Real Estate Investment Panel in Toronto, and the MoneyShow Real Estate Investment Panel in San Francisco.

Peter Stickney
Vice President of Business Development
Mr. Stickney has over 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and management, and is responsible for conducting market research, training and development, and client relationships.

Prior to joining Varro, Mr. Stickney worked with USI Insurance Services, focusing on risk management for the hospitality, multi-family, industrial, and mixed-use sectors.

Mr. Stickney is a proud alumnus of Tyler Junior College and The University of Texas at Austin. Additionally, Mr. Stickney is a member of the 2010 class of “Leadership Rockwall”, and is a regular volunteer with Dallas Area Boys and Girls Club, American Cancer Society, Salvation Army, and the Rockwall County Helping Hands.

Steve Thurston, CPA
Financial Controller
Mr. Thurston is a Certified Public Accountant with over 20 years of experience in accounting and real estate. He is responsible for all accounting functions, financial operations, and financial due diligence for new acquisitions.

Mr. Thurston’s accounting specialization includes real estate investment and development, estate tax planning, income tax planning, financial planning, tax audit representation and tax compliance. Mr. Thurston has extensive experience advising closely held businesses, their owners and high-net-worth individuals by offering critical tax planning and consulting services.

Prior to joining the organization, Mr. Thurston was a member of Pannell Kerr Forster Worldwide.

Mr. Thurston graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting and Computer Information Systems.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Colorado.

Thomas Fitzpatrick
Director of Construction and Development
Mr. Fitzpatrick has over 26 years of experience and is responsible for the company’s commercial real estate development, renovation, construction, and comprehensive due diligence activities.

Mr. Fitzpatrick has been personally responsible for executing a wide range of assignments constituting over $1.5 billion of hospitality, retail, office, industrial, specialty, headquarter, and land assets throughout his career.

Mr. Fitzpatrick’s technical expertise includes: comprehensive due diligence, project management, development, construction budgeting, zoning, land use, entitlements, site acquisition and asset disposition.

Formerly, Mr. Fitzpatrick specialized in retail and land brokerage working as an original member of Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate Services in Tampa, Florida; Vice President for a private investment and development firm, headed by the former president of U.S. Home Commercial Division, to identify acquisition targets, perform due diligence, market analysis, development feasibility, marketing, and sale of commercial real estate assets.

Mr. Fitzpatrick holds a Bachelor of Science from Stetson University and a State of Florida Real Estate Broker License.

Julie Soder
Mrs. Soder has over 18 years of experience in legal consulting, compliance and corporate compliance, and is responsible for many of the company’s administrative functions.

She holds a B.A. in Business Administration.
